Asparagus exports grew in volume, but fell in value

Peruvian fresh asparagus exports showed an increase in volume in February 2025, but a decrease in value, primarily due to lower product prices. That month, Peru shipped 1,930 tons of the product for $5.73 million, representing an 18% increase in volume but a 16% decrease in value compared to the same month the previous year. According to FreshFruit, the average price of Peruvian asparagus fell to $2.97 per kilogram, reflecting a 29% drop compared to the cost in February 2024. Of the 25 countries exported to Peruvian asparagus, the Netherlands remained the main destination, with an export volume of 690 tons for $1.9 million, representing 33% of the total. Although there was a 10% increase in volume, the value of exports to this country decreased by 42%, with an average price of $2.77 per kilogram, well below the cost of $5.19 recorded in February 2024.
