The current season for Ukrainian asparagus producers has proven to be quite challenging. Due to spring frosts, many plots have suffered—especially the Dutch varieties, which germinate earlier and are less resistant to the return of cold weather. This was shared by farmer Pavlo Bulgakov from Cherkasy region for Kurkul.com. The American varieties used by the farmer "behave more reasonably": they wake up later but are more reliable. However, according to the farmer, damaged shoots are not a catastrophe: the bush produces a new bud and continues to grow. But the affected farms entered the market prematurely, cutting everything indiscriminately, including the immature shoots. The market reacted: the supply deficit pushed prices to 400–600 UAH/kg. "There are now many more inquiries than offers. We cannot close the entire domestic market, and export is not even an option—on the contrary, asparagus is also being imported from Europe, and it is also selling out," explained Pavlo Bulgakov ...
