Pig farmers from Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Chile, Mexico, Paraguay, and Peru have agreed on the importance of an insurance fund and prompt notification to combat the African Swine Fever (ASF) in Latin America. The farmers have been preparing for the disease since 2018, reinforcing control measures at ports and hiring additional inspectors. They are also establishing a financing fund to cover union members and providing biosecurity training to farmers. The leaders stressed the need for communication to inform the public that ASF is not a risk to human health and to awareness about the potential economic impact of the disease. They also underscored the importance of timely notification to effectively implement control strategies.
