At least eight people have died due to flooding in Benguela.

At least eight people have died and another seven are missing in the Angolan province of Benguela, following the overflow of the Cavaco River and heavy rains over the weekend, the fire service reported today. The provisional balance of the Civil Protection and Fire Brigade Service, cited by RTP, highlighted that 3,624 people were saved as a consequence of the rains and 7,000 families were housed in the provisional accommodation center of Campismo, in the municipality of Benguela. The firefighters described that 367 residences collapsed and 3,313 people were isolated, as well as 62 heads of cattle, in the riverside area of the Halo River. The rains caused the destruction of the bridge over the Halo River and partial destruction of the bridge over the Hondio River, in addition to damages to solar panels, motor pumps, power transmission poles, water capture and distribution infrastructure, vehicles, and various floods.
