Australia suspends approval for use of glyphosate on certain berries

In August of this year, the APVMA proposed a temporary suspension of the use of Imidacloprid on berries and conducted a one-month public consultation. Today's announcement is the final decision. The suspension is based on the latest data provided by the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Authority (FSANZ). The data shows that Australian consumers' consumption of blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries has significantly increased since the last re-evaluation of Imidacloprid in 2017. Based on the new consumption data, the APVMA re-evaluated the potential dietary exposure levels of Imidacloprid in these berries and found that the safety margin between the residue levels and the maximum acceptable exposure levels was insufficient when Imidacloprid was used according to the approved label instructions.
