A new National Lumpy Skin Disease Action Plan, an initiative aimed at safeguarding Australia's cattle industry against lumpy skin disease, was launched in Darwin on October 13, 2022. The plan, the first of its kind in Australia, was unveiled by Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Murray Watt, in collaboration with MLA Chair Alan Beckett and other industry representatives. The plan's eight objectives include enhancing surveillance, improving diagnostic capabilities, and developing a comprehensive strategy for responding to and recovering from potential outbreaks. The plan was created with significant input from government, industry, and non-government stakeholders, and will be implemented through a variety of activities and with the support of a industry-government steering committee and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
