Austria has become the third largest soybean producer in the European Union for the first time, harvesting about 272 thousand tons of the crop in 2025. This is reported by OTS. In terms of production, the country is second only to Italy and France, according to data from Agrarmarkt Austria (AMA). The area under soybeans in Austria reached about 86 thousand hectares, which also secured the country a place in the top five EU leaders in terms of sown area. An important feature of Austrian soybean production is the high share of organic products – about 36%. The growth of the industry is facilitated by the National Protein Strategy, aimed at increasing self-sufficiency in vegetable protein and reducing import dependence. The Austrian government is also promoting the idea of ​​​​a similar strategy at the EU level.
