South Africa's avocado exports for the season are projected to increase by 5% from the previous season, reaching 17 million 4kg cartons, despite a decrease in Hass avocados. The harvest started early due to favorable moisture levels, but heavy rainfall in November and January affected the market prices and quality of later fruits. The market is currently experiencing high volumes of avocados from both late and early growing areas, as well as imports from neighboring countries, leading to lower prices. Heavy rainfall has caused damage to roads, infrastructure, and pump houses in the Lowveld region, but growers are staying positive and planning to start harvesting in late April.
