Bangladesh has seen a dramatic increase in cabbage exports, with a surge of nearly 6,000 per cent in volume compared to the previous year, exporting a record 6,500 tonnes in just over a month and a half, valued at around $1.5-million. This increase is attributed to reduced production in competitors like China, Pakistan, and India due to the pandemic, with the main export markets being Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Indonesia. Despite challenges such as a lack of reefer containers and issues with bank NOCs, exporters believe that with improved logistic support, Bangladesh could potentially export 10,000 tonnes of cabbage annually. The project 'Sustainable Agriculture, Food Security and Linkages (SaFaL)' plays a key role in facilitating these exports, offering farmers higher prices for their produce through collection centres.
