Bankruptcy recoveries explosion exposes crisis

The Brazilian agribusiness is facing a moment of strong financial tension. According to data from Serasa Experian and legal analysis institutes, requests for judicial recovery from rural producers totaled 700 in the first half of 2025 alone, a 45% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The first quarter had already signaled the worsening of the crisis, with 389 requests — a 44.6% increase from 2024 and a 21.5% increase from the end of the previous year. The advance is the result of factors such as the increase in input costs, high interest rates, extreme weather events, and the devaluation of commodities, which compromised the liquidity of operations and pressured profit margins. “The model of agricultural expansion based on credit and leverage, without the proper technical and legal preparation, created a trap for many producers.
