Just a few years ago, spring barley had a significant advantage over winter barley – at least in terms of acreage. As recently as the early third decade of the 21st century, specifically in 2021, over 400 thousand hectares of spring barley were sown in Poland. However, over the next four years, the area of this crop fell by more than 140 thousand hectares. Conversely, in the previous year, for the first time in years, winter barley was harvested from an area exceeding 400 thousand hectares. In the previous year, winter barley was harvested from over 420 thousand hectares, while spring barley was harvested from "only" 276 thousand hectares.
