Researchers at Bangladesh Agricultural University have developed a new variety of tomato, BAU Beefsteak Tomato-1, which is larger, sweeter, and more delicious than regular tomatoes. The plant is taller, produces fewer bunches, and is resistant to insects, spiders, and diseases, reducing the need for harmful pesticides. The new tomato variety is also more environmentally friendly, can be stored for 15 to 20 days without preservation, and is well-suited for the climate and soil of Bangladesh. The research, which started in 2019, was conducted through hybridisation and selection methods, with the involvement of postgraduate students.
