Beer sales in Germany plummet to historic lows

Berlin, Feb 2 (EFE).- Sales of beer from German breweries and beer depots plummeted in 2025 to their historic low, with a 6% or 497.1 million liters less than the previous year, reaching 7.8 billion liters, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). This is the largest drop in beer sales since the start of the historical series in 1993. For the first time, the volume of beer sales fell below 8.0 billion liters, excluding non-alcoholic beers, malt beverages, or beer imported from countries outside the European Union (EU). Moreover, the long-term downward trend in beer consumption was confirmed, as in 2025, breweries and depots sold a total of 18.9% less, that is, 1.8 billion liters less, than in 2015. Regarding monthly data, the usual seasonal pattern was also observed in 2025: sales increased noticeably in the spring and summer months, while they declined again in autumn and winter.
