Russia and Belarus have showcased a successful partnership in the fisheries sector, particularly in the catching of Far Eastern pollock, with a joint enterprise catching 21.5 thousand tons out of an allocated 51 thousand tons for 2024 in the Okhotsk and Bering Seas. This progress, accounting for 42% of their quota, is a result of the intergovernmental agreement from 2002 and a recent protocol from the Russian-Belarusian Joint Commission in fisheries. The partners are optimistic about fulfilling the remaining quota in the upcoming autumn-winter season, contributing to the Far East's significant pollock catch, which has already exceeded 1.9 million tons in 2023.
