Belarus is planning to increase its pork production and improve the financial performance of its pig industry. The country's slaughterhouses and meat processing plants are currently operating at 30 to 50 percent capacity due to a shortage of live pigs and pork. The Belarusian authorities have modernized the Orshansky meat processing plant and plan to build a large pig farm to address this issue. The expansion of pork production is expected to attract investment and open up export opportunities. The Belarusian pig industry has seen mixed production dynamics over the past decade, with a significant decline due to African Swine Fever. However, the country aims to produce 426,000 tons of pork in 2023, a 6 percent increase from the previous year, and plans to launch 14 new pig farms by 2026 to increase self-sufficiency in pork.
