Belarus is set to begin mining pollock in the North Okhotsk subzone of Russia, as part of an intergovernmental agreement from 2002. The agreement, updated in December 2022, designates specific subzones and quotas for Belarus' pollock catch. The Primorsky Territorial Administration of the Federal Agency for Fishery has already issued five fishing permits to Belarus. The quotas, totaling a significant catch volume, are aimed at reinforcing Russian-Belarusian ties and enhancing the international standing of the Federal Agency for Fisheries.
