Belpork paves the way for a new Belgian animal welfare label

The Belgian standard provider Belpork of the seal of approval system BePork has developed an animal welfare module for the Belgian pork industry, which is intended to provide information on the type of husbandry. As the sales promotion organization Belgian Meat Office announced last week, the new module goes beyond the legal standards and focuses on animal health, animal welfare, sustainability, food safety and traceability. In addition, it is designed not only for the animal owner level, but also for transport companies, slaughterhouses and cutting plants. This cross-level approach is not commonplace in international comparison, as many other animal welfare systems at home and abroad are mainly limited to the animal owner level, according to the organization.
