Most people associate berry fruits with summer picking, yet several varieties ripen in autumn – or are at their most delicious then. The everbearing raspberry, the gooseberry, or the fleshy elderberry all offer a special aroma even in the cooler months. These fruits can be used not only in the kitchen in a versatile manner but also contribute to autumn immune support with their valuable nutrient content. Everbearing raspberry varieties – such as ‘Polka’ or ‘Autumn Bliss’ – bear fruit on their new shoots, usually from September to the end of October. Their advantage is that pests attack them less after the summer heat. Elderberry can also be found wild in Hungary. Its fruit is tart, but it softens and becomes sweeter after the first frosts.
