Berry production in Bulgaria will rise in price due to rising prices for irrigation water

Producers of raspberries, blackberries and other berry crops in Bulgaria believe that the cost of production will increase, as the cost of water for irrigation has increased. This was reported by Fruit-inform based on materials from the portal bnr.bg. According to Bulgarian media, from March 1, Irrigation Systems Ltd has increased the price of irrigation water by 17% - 300%. The increase is attributed to higher electricity prices for pumps, repair costs and higher wages for the company's staff. For comparison, last year the cost of irrigation water per acre (0.47 ha) ranged from 40 to 60 euros, and now it is from 350 to 400 euros. The Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture is considering granting farmers a subsidy to compensate for increased irrigation costs.
