The Bigbucks apple, a red mutation of the Gala variety discovered in South Africa in 2011, has been licensed for cultivation in Australia. Since its discovery, over 2.5 million trees have been planted, with interest from countries such as America, India, and the European Union. The apple is marketed under the Flash Gala brand and is known for its vibrant color and high yield. After a five-year process involving planting and testing, a cultivation license was obtained with the help of Fruit Varieties International in Tasmania. The variety is expected to be commercially produced in several Australian states, with planting licenses granted to compliant nurseries.
