A study by Royal GD has found that the bluetongue serotype 3 outbreak has had a significant impact on dairy farms, with over 2,200 companies reporting symptoms in cattle and another thousand in sheep. The outbreak has resulted in a decrease in milk yield, especially in areas with diagnosed infections, lasting for nine to ten weeks. The outbreak also led to increased mortality rates on cattle farms, particularly dairy farms, with adult cattle and earmarked calves aged up to fourteen days being the most affected.
