Indonesia, being one of the largest producers of coconut and cocoa, has received directions from President Joko Widodo to manage the production and export of these commodities effectively. The country produces 2.8 million tons of coconut and 180 thousand tons of cocoa annually, with export values of US$ 1.2 billion and US$1.3 billion respectively. The government plans to increase cocoa production to 400 thousand tons by focusing on replanting and development of the industry. The Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS) has been tasked with overseeing these activities, with a focus on supporting small holders. The government also intends to decrease the amount of land dedicated to cocoa production in favor of industrial development.
