Brazil accelerates transition to low-carbon mobility

The research indicates that the fleet of electrified vehicles is expected to grow 44 times by 2040, driven by the advancement of hybrid models, which will account for 72% of these vehicles. Among light vehicles, flex-fuel engines will remain relevant, but electrification is advancing rapidly, with a projection of 17.4 million units, equivalent to 27% of the national fleet. The study highlights the role of hybrid-flex (bioelectric) vehicles, a national innovation that combines efficiency and sustainability. "The projections indicate that the marginal cost of decarbonizing transportation is optimized when the country takes advantage of already established routes and gradually introduces new technologies, such as biomethane.
