In 2020, the Brazilian agricultural sector saw mixed results in food exports, with a 17% increase in exports to Asia reaching US $ 43 billion until November, despite a 22% drop in exports to the Middle East, led by a reduction in imports from Iran. The United States and Mexico also cut their food importations from Brazil. However, Europe remained a steady second-largest importer of Brazilian goods, with a minor increase of 3%. Notably, Venezuela returned to the Brazilian food market, significantly increasing its purchases by 161% from the previous year, mainly of sugar, rice, and soy oil. Meanwhile, Brazil experienced a surge in demand for its agricultural products in emerging markets like Bangladesh and India.
