Brazil's pork consumption hit a record high in the first half of 2022, with each person consuming an average of 18 kg of pork, up from 16.9 kg in the same period last year, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. The increase in pork consumption is part of a gradual trend that has seen consumption rise from 14 kg per person in 2010 to 16 kg in 2021. The number of pigs slaughtered in Brazil also reached 14 million in a single quarter for the first time since 1997, a 7.2% increase compared to the same period in 2021.
