Brazil has reached an agreement with the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) to allow the export of Norwegian aquaculture products, including salmon, to Brazil. The agreement, which has been under negotiation since 2021, enables Mattilsynet to issue health certificates for these exports. This is a significant opportunity for the Norwegian aquaculture industry, given the competition from Chile, the second-largest importer of Brazilian salmon. Exports can begin since September 15.
