Fundecitrus has released its first orange harvest report for the 2024-2025 campaign, projecting a total of 215.78 million boxes for the Citrus Belt of São Paulo and West-Southwest Minas Gerais, which is 7.1% lower than the initial forecast. The reduction is due to smaller fruit sizes caused by hot and dry weather, with 31% less rainfall and higher temperatures accelerating fruit ripening. The Triángulo Mineiro region is expected to contribute approximately 14.34 million boxes. An early harvest, aimed at minimizing losses from citrus greening, has led to a faster harvest pace and a revised lower fruit drop rate. The average orange size is smaller than initially estimated, requiring 264 pieces to fill a 90-pound box. The next crop forecast update will be released on December 10.
