In January 2025, sugar prices in São Paulo fell by about 4%, according to the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (CEPEA). The average price for white sugar was 155.31 Brazilian reais per 50 kg bag, a decrease of nearly 4% from December. Despite lower sugar production in South Central Brazil and strong demand for ethanol, sugar prices declined. The lowest value recorded for Brazil’s white sugar price index was on January 28, at 149.63 Brazilian reais per bag.
