A new initiative in Brazil aims to utilize the reservoirs of hydroelectric plants for fish farming with the goal of increasing protein supply and creating new jobs. The initiative, a collaboration between the Ministries of Mines and Energy and Fisheries and Aquaculture, plans to use 74 reservoirs for this purpose and is in line with the National Policy for Sustainable Development of Aquaculture and Fisheries, the National Electric Energy Policy, and the Plan for the Recovery of the Country's Reservoirs. The workshop also discussed environmental licensing for the activity and the interaction between hydroelectric plant operations and fishing activities.
