Brazil, holder of the world's largest commercial herd with 238.2 million bovines, has launched the National Plan for Individual Identification of Bovines and Bubalines (PNIB), with the bold goal of identifying each head of cattle by 2032. More than an international market requirement, herd tracking, popularly known as the "CPF do boi" (CPF being the Brazilian equivalent of a Social Security Number), is a management and compliance tool that can revolutionize cattle farming and add value to Brazilian beef. In an interview with Giro do Boi, zootechnician Consolata Piastrella, CEO of Piastrella Animal Traceability, stated that the PNIB is a public policy aimed at food security and standardization of processes so that Brazil can reach the best and largest markets with greater efficiency.
