Brazil has expanded its presence in the Colombian market with the authorization to export bovine blood meal, an input used in the manufacture of animal feed. The negotiation was concluded between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), following sanitary discussions between the two countries. The opening represents another front for the Brazilian agribusiness, which has already totaled 471 new markets since the beginning of 2023, according to official data. Blood meal is produced from by-products of cattle slaughter and has a high protein content, making it important in the formulation of feeds. The product is mainly used in diets for dogs, cats, and fish, as well as for pigs and poultry. Colombia, with around 52 million inhabitants, has an expanding pet market.
