The Federation of Italian Beekeepers (FAI) has received unanimous support from the Agriculture Commission of the European Parliament for their call to indicate the geographical origin and percentages of honey in mixtures on labels. This decision is seen as a step towards greater transparency and combating honey fraud. Italian beekeepers have long considered the current Honey Directive inadequate in protecting quality bee products and the interests of producers and consumers, and have been using a tricolor seal of origin and guarantee to certify their honey's origin.
