Spain: Brussels gives its approval to impose cold treatment on imports of oranges to the EU

At Monday's meeting, the European Union's Standing Committee on Phytosanitary (Scopaff) gave its approval to a modification of community regulations to impose a 'cold treatment' in transit on all European imports of oranges from the countries that suffer from the so-called 'False moth', as reported by Intercitrus. The formal approval of the Regulation will take place next Monday. The measure does not affect tangerines or grapefruit, which are carriers of Thaumatotibia leukotreta, or oranges from Israel, where this disease is also present, as in both cases the risk of transmission is considered "low". The citrus interprofessional values the approval of this measure as a fundamental "milestone" for Spanish and European citrus farming, since in this way the EU will protect continental agriculture as a whole in the best possible way against the possible entry of this serious pest.
