The Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) has approved the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status for Ibiza honey/mel d'Eivissa and green asparagus from Guadalajara, granting them intellectual property rights. The process for Ibiza honey began on May 18, 2022, and for green asparagus on February 14, 2023. Ibiza honey is known for its unique floral aroma and sweet flavor, while Guadalajara green asparagus is noted for its tender texture and balanced sweet and bitter notes. These designations are part of Spain's broader strategy to differentiate and sustainably develop high-quality agricultural products, with over 330,000 farmers and ranchers producing products with quality seals and contributing an estimated value of over 7,000 million euros.
