In the Rangpur region of Bangladesh, farmers have successfully cultivated a bumper garlic crop during the last Rabi season, producing 27,977 tonnes from 3,470 hectares of land, surpassing the set target of 28,399 tonnes. This achievement was made possible with the support of the Department of Agricultural Extension and other agricultural organizations, who provided advanced technologies and easy loan facilities for farmers. The average yield per hectare was 8.06 tonnes. Farmers have shown a growing interest in garlic farming, inspired by the consistent high production and reasonable selling prices. Retailers are currently purchasing the garlic from farmers at rates between Tk 2,800 and Tk 3,200 per mound, then selling it to consumers at prices ranging from Tk 3,200 to Tk 3,600 per mound or Tk 80 to Tk 90 per kilogram, depending on the size and quality.
