South Korea is experiencing a surge in the prices of major winter vegetables, including winter cabbage and radish, due to poor crop yields and reduced supply. The high prices are attributed to weather conditions that caused damage during planting and transplanting, and harsh winter conditions in major producing areas, leading to a decrease in production by 12-18% compared to the previous year. In response, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to extend discounts on these items until next month and will apply quota tariffs to encourage private imports. The government also intends to supply radish reserves to large marts at a discounted price.
