Call by M. Schoinas for compliance with biosecurity measures in Lesvos

The Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margarita Schoinas, called on the local authorities of Lesvos and producers to cooperate with the State to implement biosecurity measures in order to make possible the containment and eradication of foot-and-mouth disease during a press conference on the progress of the disease on the island. The minister described the situation as extremely critical, noting that "we are managing a very difficult situation, not just at the local or even the national level, but one that may have European dimensions," while emphasizing that "the stakes are high and significant and there is no room for error." At the same time, he stressed that the government is and will remain at the side of livestock farmers and the local economy, presenting an integrated framework of support measures without setting a predetermined upper budgetary limit.
