By Gabriela Brumatti São Paulo, 07/11/2023 - Sugarcane crushing by mills in the Center-South of Brazil reached 43 million tons in the second half of June of the 2023/24 harvest, representing an increase of 2.19% compared to with the same period last year (42.08 million tons), informs the Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry Union (Unica), in a fortnightly survey, released today. By the end of June, two units had started the 2023/2024 harvest, Unica said. At the end of the fortnight, 257 units were in operation in the Center-South, of which 242 sugarcane processing units, seven companies with corn-based ethanol and eight flex-fuel plants. In the same period, in the 2022/23 harvest, 257 production units were in operation. Data from the Sugarcane Technology Center (CTC) indicate that, for a common sample of 68 producing units, the agricultural income index registers growth of 16% compared to the same month of the previous year.
