Brazil: Cashew farmers in Rio Grande do Norte are trained to increase competitiveness

According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Rio Grande do Norte plays an important role in cashew production. The state should produce around 17.9 thousand tons of cashew nuts this year, which represents an increase of 7.7% in relation to last year's harvest. With the objective of consolidating the application of technological innovations in the regional cashew culture, Sebrae in Rio Grande do Norte, Embrapa Agroindústria Tropical (Fortaleza, CE) and Banco do Nordeste (BNB) carried out, between the 23rd and 25th of August, a technical course on technological innovations for cashew cultivation. The content covered the entire productive part of cashew: cultivation techniques, clones, sectioning of clones, fertilization, pests and diseases, among others. A field activity showed the application of knowledge in practice.
