Three new cassava cultivars, BRS 417, BRS 418, and BRS 419, adapted to the Cerrado region of Central Brazil, have been launched online by Embrapa Cerrados. The event was attended by researchers and partners, marking the conclusion of years of work aimed at improving cassava production in the region. The cultivars are expected to address issues such as low root productivity and quality of cassava products, which are common in the Cerrado due to pests, diseases, and inadequate planting times. The launch follows a partnership started in 2015, which resulted in the installation of evaluation fields for cassava cultivars. The partnership involves various organizations and companies, including FBB, Emater-MG, and CNPq. The history of cassava production in the Cerrado includes efforts to improve quality and profitability through genetic improvement and advanced production technologies, with a focus on participatory research and collaboration with rural producers.
