In 2020, Castilla-La Mancha led Spain with 17% of its agricultural land, or 422,864 hectares, converted to organic farming, contributing to the national growth in organic farming by 3.5%, totaling 2.4 million hectares, a 4.8% annual increase over five years. The region's organic farming was predominantly permanent pastures, with a mix of permanent and arable crops. The number of organic operators, particularly in the later stages of the food chain, saw a 6.3% increase to 50,047. The growth in organic agriculture was evident across various sectors, including a notable rise in the number of head of cattle, pigs, and laying animals. Aquaculture also experienced growth, with mussels being the most produced species. This growth positions Spain as a leader in organic agriculture, with a target to meet the Green Pact's 2030 goals.
