The Generalitat of Catalonia has activated new measures to contain the Asian hornet by distributing 500 units of attractant liquid among Catalan beekeepers and the imminent acquisition of traps to be distributed by the Rural Agents Corps, as announced following a meeting between the administration and the sector held this week. The Asian hornet, a predator of honeybees, intensifies its activity between February and April, a critical period for apiculture colonies. Both investments—the attractant liquid and the traps—aim to enhance preventive trapping of queens during the spring and autumn campaigns to curb the impact of this invasive species. The institutional response is part of the Honey Action Plan for Catalonia 2025-2028, which sets the lines of work for a more sustainable, competitive, and value-added beekeeping sector.
