Côte d'Ivoire, the world's largest exporter of raw cashew nuts, has seen a significant increase in its export of processed cashew kernels to Europe, thanks to a project by the CBI and the government. Launched in 2019, the project aimed to help companies process and export market-ready cashew kernels, leading to technical and social improvements in cashew processing companies. As a result, cashew kernel exports rose from less than 3,000 tonnes in August 2022 to over 5,000 tonnes in August 2023, making Côte d'Ivoire the world's second-largest exporter of cashew kernels.
