Ceará registers highest index of severe drought in six years

Ceará has returned to a state of alert regarding its water situation. Data from the Drought Monitor referring to November 2025 indicate that 26.73% of the state territory is classified in a severe drought condition, the highest index recorded in almost six years. The information was released by the Ceará Foundation for Meteorology and Water Resources (Funceme). The current percentage approaches the record observed in January 2020, when 28.27% of the state presented relative severe drought. For Funceme, the current scenario "lights an alert for the impacts of the prolonged drought," especially in the face of the persistence of unfavorable climatic conditions. According to Funceme, the worsening of the situation is mainly linked to the scarcity of rainfall in the second semester, a period in which water replenishment is usually more limited.
