Despite stringent border inspections at Porto Xavier, the import of onions from Argentina into Brazil has surged due to high national discards caused by heavy rains. The Argentine onions are reportedly of superior quality compared to the Brazilian ones. The price of Argentine onions increased by 14.2% in the last week of February 2024, reaching R$ 105.67/sc of 20 kg for 'synthetic 14'. As the supply in Brazil becomes increasingly limited, onion prices are expected to continue to rise in the upcoming weeks.
