Certification process begins for frozen hake of Argentina

Since 2019, the firm Iberconsa has been working together with Cedepesca to reach an agreement with other companies and start the pre-assessment process for the certification of trawling hake from freezer vessels. After two years of meetings with the companies Estrella Patagónica, Solimeno and Moscuzza, they finally came together and last Tuesday the agreements were signed so that 14 trawlers that process the product on board enter an Improvement Project (PROME) with a view to achieving Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification. The action plan that begins includes targets for improvement in harvest control rules and fishery governance, as well as a better understanding of the trawl footprint and its impact on habitats.
