The majority of Thai consumers want to switch to consuming plant-based protein and other alternatives instead of meat protein, but face hurdles such as higher prices, limited distribution, and concerns about highly processed foods. There is a call for the government to support the production of plant-based and alternative protein, both for domestic consumption and export, in order to correspond with the direction of both the domestic and export markets. It is believed that plant-based protein is part of the food of the future and developing a more sustainable food production sector is important for Thailand to remain a leader in the global food market.
