A shipment of over 20 thousand tons of Peruvian fruits, including blueberries, avocados, grapes, and mangoes, is being sent from the port of Chancay to Shanghai, marking the first direct shipment of its kind. This shipment is expected to reduce maritime transport time between Peru and China by 20%, saving 20% of logistics costs. The port of Chancay is projected to generate approximately 4.5 billion dollars in annual income for Peru and create over 8,000 jobs. The port is 60% owned by the Chinese state-owned shipping company Cosco Shipping and 40% by the Peruvian mining company Volcán Compañía Minera.
