China and Chile have a unique connection, with Chile becoming a favorite supplier of national cherries for Chinese New Year. The relationship began in 2012, making Chile the first Latin American country to sign a Free Trade Agreement with China, and is now the third largest Chinese import. The success is attributed to advanced technology in transportation and cultivation, with over 90% of Chilean cherry exports going to China. The booming market has led to an increase in cherry cultivation in Chile, covering over 70,000 hectares from Ovalle to Los Lagos.
