German scientists have identified the Gisela type cherry rootstocks as superior, producing larger fruits and optimizing fruiting. The Gisela 5 rootstock, in particular, is noted for its larger fruit size and suitability for humid regions like Transcarpathia, West Ukraine, and the north of Ukraine. However, it requires good watering and clay soils. Gisela 6 is preferred in regions with colder climates due to its deeper root system. Gisela 12 is successful in warmer climates like Spain and southern France. Meanwhile, Gisela 3, the smallest of the rootstocks, is being evaluated for greenhouse cultivation despite potential compatibility issues with some cherry varieties.
